Rules of the Kwoon

The Training Hall (Kwoon in Chinese, or Dojo in Japanese) is a sacred space dedicated to self improvement, honor & integrity. It is a place with guidelines for life that extend far beyond the mats.

 

3 Major Rules

  • Bow when entering and exiting the training area (this is referred to as the Kwoon or Dojo)

  • Consider your partner's safety at all times

  • All members’ bodies, hair, uniforms & training gear must be clean

Etiquette

  • Be on time for classes

  • No use of profanity in the Kwoon

  • Drug & alcohol use is strictly prohibited

  • No excessive talking or distractions during lessons

  • Instructor to be referred to as Sifu, Sensei or Professor, according to their tradition

  • "Osu" is a sign of respect and is appropriate response when given instruction or correction by your instructor

  • It is polite to let the instructor know before you leave the mats during class

  • Members of Totality Martial Arts Academy are free to train at other schools

  • When visiting other schools, seminars or competing in tournaments, always show respect and courtesy that brings honor to Totality Martial Arts Academy

  • Refrain from using your skills in public unless necessary 

  • Visitors are welcome as long as they respect Kwoon rules, and must be invited or ask permission before visiting, fill out the waiver & pay for any fees prior to training 

Hygiene

  • Sandals are mandatory off the mats during training

  • Rash guards or t-shirts are mandatory, even under a Gi Kimono

  • Nails to be trimmed short

  • No perfumes or colognes

  • Remove rings or other metal before training

  • Long hair must be tied back

  • Stay Hydrated
